PASTRIES FOR TEA: BAKESHOP, PORTLAND

If there's one thing that goes just famously with a nice cup of tea, it's an impossibly tender, not-too-sweet pastry.  One of my favorite haunts to scratch this particular itch is Bakeshop in NE Portland. This jewel of a place is the brain child (butter child?) of the immensely talented and wonderful Kim Boyce. After working at Spago for many years in Los Angeles, Kim and her family moved up to Portland. Lucky for us, she shares her point of view in her award-winning cookbook, Good to the Grain and at her bakery. While I adore the cookbook, I love even more to stop into Bakeshop and pick up a few goodies. No one does it as well as Kim and her small staff.

It's hard to pick favorites, my brother and I debated about our dearest Kim Boyce treat this afternoon, but I'm going to recommend my current darling: the Chocolate Orange Pecan Scone. It's swirl of chocolate goodness makes me swoon.

  2. Oh! When I saw photos from Bakeshop in your instagram feed, the fact that this is Kim Boyce's spot escaped me! No wonder everything looks so amazing. Now that I live on the west coast, I may have to make a pilgrimage. ( :
