We finished a major deadline and decided to get out of town for a few days last week -- Last minute style! The American Southwest has so much landscape, history and rugged rock beauty . . . We had to see it for ourselves. I googled every step of the trip via phone from the car and it worked out pretty great. You really can't go wrong with Southern Utah and Northern Arizona.
We started with Glen Canyon, Lake Powell and Antelope Canyon. Of the three, you could skip Glen Canyon, but Lake Powell is an oasis of periwinkle, soft pinks and lavenders beyond all your ice cream color imaginations and Antelope Canyon is an intimate, surreal journey into a Navajo area that floods yearly. It's like being under the sea in there, full of sensuous curves made by water and time. And the dramatic light, such a joy to explore, touch and breathe in the darkness.
If you go:
Stay -- Wahweap Marina, worth the extra 20 bucks for a lake view room.
Eat -- at the bar here, surprisingly good food.
